La gardienne à damier : la bougie bretonne inspirée du phare de Loctudy et des légendes marines - Les Fondeurs d'Histoires

The checkered guardian: the Breton candle inspired by the Loctudy lighthouse and maritime legends

Where the Pont-l'Abbé river meets the sea 🌊, dreaded rocks emerge from the water. They are called the Perdrix . One misty evening, above these reefs, a small light appeared, like a sign, like a promise 🔥.

To protect the sailors, a turret was erected on the Perdrix, then a unique lighthouse, black and white , recognizable among all others 🖤🤍. Even the sea, it is said, knew how to find it.

A true story between Loctudy and Île-Tudy

For years, the turret guided sailors between Île-Tudy and Loctudy . It was part of the landscape, almost like family. Then one day, it was announced that it was no longer needed, that its light would be removed.

The news shocked everyone. "We don't destroy what has protected us," said the residents. The two towns then joined forces to save the guardian. Repaired and restored, it remained true to its former appearance.

Today, though it no longer illuminates navigation, it still watches over the estuary ✨. And when evening falls 🌙, it reminds sailors that beyond the Perdrix, the return is near ⚓.

A handcrafted candle with marine and woody notes

We envisioned La Gardienne à Damier as a breath of fresh estuary air: cool, salty, soothing… then gently enveloping, like returning to port. Its olfactory universe is built in three stages, for a harmonious diffusion throughout the room.

  • Top notes : sea fennel 🌿 and lotus 🌸 for a fresh, salty, and luminous feel
  • Heart notes : a marine accord 🌊 blended with lily of the valley and rose 🌹, soft and soothing
  • Base notes : cedar , sandalwood and musk 🌲 for a warm, woody and comforting scent

Why does this Breton candle resonate so deeply?

Because it speaks of something universal: protection, home, return. The checkered guardian pays homage to a local symbol and those who defended it. It is a candle conceived as a presence, a soft, reassuring light.
