Candle care video tutorial 🕯️

  1. Choose the right spot 🔥Place your candle on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, away from draughts. Moving air causes flickering flames, soot and an uneven burn. Use a candle coaster or a solid, non-flammable tray to protect your furniture 🪵
  2. Get the first burn right 🕳️The first time you light it, let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the glass to avoid hollows and tunnelling.
  3. Don't burn it for too long ⏳3 to 4 hours is a reasonable time, so the wick doesn't “mushroom”, the container doesn't overheat and the wax burns properly.
  4. Trim the wick before each use ✂️Before lighting, trim the wick to avoid black smoke and flames that are too big, and to make your candle last longer. Allow about 6 mm for a cotton wick. For a wooden wick, trim it a little shorter, around 3 to 4 mm, removing the charred bits from the previous burn ✨
  5. Put it out properly, don't blow 🚫Use a snuffer or dip the wick into the wax. Blowing can splash hot wax or cause soot. Wait until it has cooled completely before putting the lid back on ❄️
  6. Keep your candle clean 🧼Remove bits of match, wick trimmings or dust from the melted wax. This gives a cleaner, safer burn 🌿
  7. Store it correctly 🌙Keep your candle in a dry, cool place away from direct light to protect its colour, fragrance and shape.
  8. Never leave it unattended ⚠️Never leave it burning unattended, never near flammable objects, and always out of reach of children and pets.
  9. Stop before the bottom 🛑Stop burning your candle when about one centimetre of wax is left at the bottom of the container. Below that, the glass gets far too hot, can become fragile, and the flame no longer has enough wax to burn properly.
  10. Give the container a second life 🌿Don't throw away your amber glass jar. Let it cool completely, then put it in the freezer for about an hour: the leftover wax shrinks and almost comes away by itself, so you can lift it out with a small spoon. You can also pour very hot water inside: the wax rises and sets on the surface. Never pour it down the sink. Finish with hot soapy water, remove the metal wick tab and dry. The jar becomes a tealight holder, a pencil pot, a jewellery dish or a little vase ✨

Four workshop secrets

🔥 The flame

A good flame stays upright, is about one centimetre tall and doesn't blacken the glass. If it dances or flickers, look for the draught: a window, air conditioning or a busy doorway.

Never blow it out. Use a snuffer or dip the wick into the wax with tongs, like the ones in the Élégance kit.

🪵 The wick

Depending on the creation, our wicks are untreated maple wood or cotton, always mounted on a lead-free base. Wooden wicks crackle softly, like a miniature fireplace.

Trim it to about 6 mm before each lighting. It's the gesture that changes everything, and the one people forget most often.

🌿 The plant-based wax

Soy, rapeseed or coconut depending on the product, always 100% plant-based, biodegradable and GMO-free. It burns more slowly than paraffin and releases the fragrance better.

It may turn slightly white on the surface in the cold: that's purely cosmetic, never a defect, and it doesn't change the burn at all.

🫗 The container

Its width determines the wick size needed, which is why we test every combination for several weeks before approving it. Too narrow, and the wax tunnels. Too wide, and it overheats the glass.

We chose amber glass for a simple reason: it filters light, protects the fragrance and warms the glow of the flame. And it's fully recyclable.

Wax melts and burners video tutorial ✨

  1. Use a real wax melt burner 🕯️This is the most important point on this whole page, and the one we explain in detail just below. Take a minute to check yours ⬇️
  2. A good-quality tealight 🔥Use a standard 4-hour unscented tealight for a clean, even burn. Never use long-burning tealights: they overheat the wax and spoil the fragrance 💡
  3. Place the wax melt in the dish 🧊Add a whole wax melt or a piece, depending on the intensity you want. Tip: for small rooms, cut your wax melt in half ✂️
  4. Diffuse in short sessions ⏱️Let it melt for 1 to 2 hours, then put it out. This preserves the aromas and stops them evaporating too quickly. You can cut the wax melt into several pieces to match the intensity to the size of the room. It can be reused until the wax no longer gives off any fragrance 🔁
  5. Remove used wax easily ❄️Wait for the wax to cool and harden, then gently slide it out with a spoon 🥄. Never pour it down the sink.
  6. Clean the dish regularly 🧼A clean burner diffuses better. Use a soft cloth or a damp paper towel.

How to recognise a real wax melt burner 🔍

Many objects look like a wax melt burner without being one. Here's how to tell the difference in a few seconds, before you even light it.

The distance between the flame and the dish is the number-one criterion. Allow around ten centimetres. Any less and the wax gets far too hot: the fragrance is spoiled, the ceramic can crack and the wax can escape. Any more and it no longer melts properly. A ruler and ten seconds are all it takes to check.

✓ A real wax melt burner

  • The right distance between the flame and the dish, as above
  • A wide, shallow dish so the wax spreads out
  • Solid, thick ceramic designed to heat dry
  • A wide, stable base that won't tip over
  • A ventilation opening under the flame
  • Or an electric model, with no flame at all

✕ What isn't one

  • A chocolate fondue set
  • A serving bowl or ramekin placed on a stand
  • A tealight holder used as a burner
  • Any model where the flame almost touches the bottom
  • A deep, bowl-shaped dish where the wax pools
  • A stand on thin legs that wobbles at the slightest knock

⚠️ The most common mix-up

Chocolate fondue sets and wax melt burners look very alike in photos: the same pale bowl, the same metal stand, the same tealight. But the first is designed for chocolate, which absorbs and spreads heat. With a thin layer of wax, the bottom gets much hotter, the ceramic can give way and the wax can run onto the flame. If the item is sold with forks or in the kitchen section, it's not a wax melt burner.

Five burner tips

🌫️ How the fragrance spreads

A wax melt diffuses faster and stronger than a candle: a few minutes are enough to scent a whole room.

Diffuse in 1- to 2-hour sessions rather than continuously: it preserves the aromas and stops them evaporating too quickly. Remember to air the room too, as your nose quickly gets used to a constant smell.

🧊 The dish and the wax melts

Add a whole wax melt or a piece depending on the intensity you want: half a wax melt is plenty for a bedroom or bathroom, a whole one for a living room.

Good news: the wax doesn't evaporate. The amount in the dish stays the same, only the fragrance fades. So your wax melt can be reused as long as it still smells.

🔁 Changing fragrance

The best time is when it's cold: cooled wax shrinks and comes away almost by itself. If you're impatient, a few minutes in the freezer speeds things up.

If it won't budge, relight for ten seconds to soften it, then wipe with a paper towel. A quick wipe of the dish with a soft cloth, and you can move on to another story ✨

🕯️ The tealight

A standard 4-hour unscented tealight, well centred under the dish. Scented ones mix two smells and blur the creation.

Absolutely avoid long-burning 8- or 10-hour tealights: their flame is taller and hotter, and they cook the fragrance instead of diffusing it.

⚠️ Where to put your burner

On a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains and anything that could catch fire. A trivet or a stone tray is ideal.

Never move the burner while it's in use: the dish gets very hot and the liquid wax spills easily. Wait until it has cooled completely.

  • Never use a kitchen utensil in place of a wax melt burner
  • Never leave a lit burner unattended
  • Only one tealight at a time, never two

Understanding your Flacon Nomade diffuser ✨

🌿 Hanging version

Here, the wooden cap does all the work: soaked in fragrance, it gradually releases it into the car.

🧭 Getting started

  1. Unscrew the wooden capGently, without forcing it.
  2. Remove the protective sealThis is the little membrane that seals the bottle during transport. Keep it if you want to store the bottle for a few weeks without it diffusing.
  3. Screw the cap back on carefullyCheck that it's fully screwed on before handling the bottle: that's what prevents leaks.
  4. Tilt the bottle for a few secondsJust long enough for the wood to soak up the fragrance. No longer.
  5. Hang it from your rear-view mirrorThe wood acts as a natural diffuser, gradually releasing the fragrance, with no electricity and no daily handling.

🔄 Activating and adjusting the scent
  • Tilt the bottle 1 to 2 times a week
  • The more you tilt it, the stronger the fragrance
  • The less you tilt it, the longer it lasts
  • Never leave it upside down for too long
⏳ How long it lasts

Average diffusion up to 4 to 6 weeks, depending on temperature, sun exposure and how often you tilt it. Heat speeds up evaporation a lot: a bottle in full sun behind a windscreen will run out much faster ☀️

  • Always check the cap is screwed on tightly
  • Don't leave the bottle upside down for too long
  • Avoid contact with plastic, fabric or leather surfaces

🌬️ Air vent version

Here, the sticks absorb the fragrance and diffuse it by capillary action, helped by the airflow from your air vent.

🧭 Getting started

  1. Unscrew the capStand the bottle upright on a stable surface.
  2. Remove the protective sealWithout tipping the bottle: the liquid must not spill.
  3. Screw the cap back onAll the way: that's what keeps it sealed and stops the fragrance leaking on bends.
  4. Insert the sticks into the bottleOne stick for a gentle scent that lasts longer, two for a stronger fragrance that runs out faster.
  5. Clip the diffuser onto the air ventThe airflow activates the diffusion: it becomes continuous and automatic, with no handling needed. The stronger the ventilation, the faster the fragrance spreads.

⚠️ The essential point

Never turn this bottle upside down. Unlike the hanging model, the fragrance is diffused only through the sticks. Turning it over won't make it stronger, but it may spill fragrance onto your dashboard. Also avoid any contact with plastic, leather and textiles.

  • Adapt the intensity to the space: the more the air moves, the faster it diffuses
  • Close the bottle properly when refilling or changing fragrance

🧴 Refilling your Flacon Nomade
  • Only use a refill designed for fragrance diffusers
  • Fill the bottle carefully, without overfilling
  • Close the bottle tightly after refilling
  • Wipe up any drops on or around the bottle straight away
  • Don't mix several fragrances in the same bottle without cleaning it first
🧼 Cleaning before changing fragrance
  • Empty the bottle completely
  • Rinse gently with hot soapy water or a little household alcohol
  • Don't use abrasive products
  • Let it air-dry completely, ideally for 24 hours
  • Only refill when the bottle is perfectly dry
