The birth of a candle: from idea to flame
Before reaching you, an artisanal scented candle travels quite a journey: inspiration, story, fragrance, testing, labels, regulations, packaging, and patience. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at a creation by Les Fondeurs d'Histoires.
At Les Fondeurs d’Histoires, a candle is not just a scented object. It's a story to ignite, designed to create an ambiance, awaken a memory, and transform a simple moment into a magical interlude.
1. It all starts with inspiration 🌙
An artisanal scented candle can be born from a movie, a series, a walk, a current event, a childhood memory, or a place that leaves a mark on us. Sometimes, it's a very precise image. Sometimes, it's just an emotion.
The smell of a warm cake, an open old book, a sea breeze, a summer light, an autumn evening... everything can become the starting point for a new scented creation.
2. Then comes the story: the universe takes shape 📜
Once the idea is found, we start outlining the universe: what setting, what emotion, what memory, what atmosphere? It is at this point that the future candle truly begins to exist.
We also envision the future visual, the keepsake card, and the label style. To better understand our approach, you can visit our dedicated page: where stories are born.
3. The fragrance: the invisible heart of the candle 🌸
Once the universe is established, we contact our master perfumer to create a fragrance that aligns with the story. The fragrance must convey the same message as the visual and text.
A candle fragrance must be balanced, pleasant when cold, but especially interesting once the candle is lit. Therefore, there may be several olfactory adjustments before validating the final version.
4. The sketch, the visual, and the keepsake card 🎨
While the fragrance is being refined, we also work on the visual identity. Each candle is accompanied by a keepsake card: one side illustrated, one side with the story.
These cards are printed in our workshop. A first color print, a drying time, then the story printed on the back. A little more patience, and the magic takes shape.

5. Creation in the workshop: wax, fragrance, and precise gestures 🕯️
Once the fragrance is validated, creation can begin. We heat the wax, then we make the mixtures with the fragrances and the necessary elements for the candle to hold up well.
For scented melts, we also add pigments to achieve that more magical, colorful, and visual aspect. Every detail counts to achieve a beautiful, coherent, and pleasant-to-use result.
6. Testing: the step you can't skip ✅
The first candle poured is not immediately put up for sale. It first goes through several testing phases: combustion, diffusion, visual appearance, stability, and wick behavior.
These tests are essential to offer a quality artisanal candle. A candle must be beautiful, yes, but it must also burn correctly and offer a pleasant experience.
7. Safety, traceability, and regulatory obligations 🛡️
Before selling, there's also the less visible but essential part: regulatory procedures, safety information, labels, and traceability.
Each product must be accompanied by the necessary information for clear and safe use. This step may seem less poetic, but it's part of serious manufacturing.
8. Production, finishing, and labeling ✨
When everything is validated, we start production. A candle then goes through several phases: pouring, resting, retouching, smoothing the top, labeling, and visual inspection.
To avoid small bubbles under the labels, we lightly heat the containers before application. It's a detail, but these details are precisely what change the final result.
9. The engraved lid and packaging 🎁
The lids are then laser-engraved in our workshop. Then comes the packaging in our custom boxes.
The idea is simple: when you receive a candle, the experience should begin even before lighting it. The package, the card, the visual, the fragrance... everything must tell the same story.
10. Going online: another day's work 💻
Once the product is ready, there's still the task of creating its listing on the website: photos, description, story, usage tips, legal mentions, natural referencing, and any variations.
This often takes about a day per new product. A good product listing also helps visitors understand the candle's universe before buying it.
11. Cure time: patience before magic ⏳
Even when a candle seems finished, there's still one more step: the cure time. This means we let the fragrance stabilize in the wax.
This patience allows for better scent diffusion and a more refined experience. An artisanal candle should not be rushed.
In summary, a candle goes through:
- ✨ an initial idea or emotion
- 📜 a story and a visual universe
- 🌸 a fragrance developed with our master perfumer
- 🕯️ artisanal manufacturing in the workshop
- ✅ quality tests
- 🛡️ safety and traceability procedures
- 🎁 packaging, a keepsake card, and a complete online launch

How long does it take to create a new candle?
It depends on the fragrance, testing, and visual work. Between the idea, olfactory adjustments, trials, labels, and going online, a new candle requires several preparation stages.
Why test a candle before selling it?
Tests allow us to check combustion, fragrance diffusion, wick behavior, and overall appearance.
Why do your candles have a story?
Because we want to create more than just a scent. Each candle is conceived as a complete atmosphere, with an image, text, fragrance, and emotion.
